In previous years taxpayers with net annual medical expenses over $1500 could partially claim the excess against their taxable income. No more.
If you make such a claim for 2013-2014 but hadn't also made one the previous year, tough luck. It's clear federal governments (of either colour) have quietly snuck in with this change, without any announcement.
It’s just another “entitlement” of the kind Treasurer Hockey is targeting – excluding MPs’ own parliamentary perks, of course. And I just remembered why I voted informal in the last election.
