At about 9.23pm on Saturday police received several calls about a man suffering from head injuries in Stuart Street, Nowra.
They arrived to find the 30-year-old Port Kembla man lying on the floor of the lounge room and bleeding from the head.
Police alleged the man was drunk, uncooperative, abusive and aggressive.
He lashed out at Ambulance officers who tried to treat and bandage his head injury.
While kicking and punching the man hit a policeman in the nose causing it to bleed.
Police restrained him and took him to Shoalhaven Hospital for treatment.
While there the man continued to be abusive and aggressive towards police.
He also threw antiseptic around the treatment room staining the floor and walls before being sedated for treatment.
Police have charged the man with assaulting police and using offensive language.
Shoalhaven detectives are investigating as to how the man received his injuries.
