The CUA bank in Nowra will close on September 19.
The announcement is a concern for the customer-owned bank’s employees and for business owners in the CBD.
The bank is closing in a move to stay competitive in a market where people are increasingly using online banking.
Nowra property owner Mark Crowther has in recent times raised concerns about the number of businesses closing in the CBD.
He believed it was important the prominent location of CUA at the entrance to Junction Court was re-tenanted as soon as possible after the closure.
He said he hoped it would be a replacement business that would attract people to Junction Court.
The bank’s group general manager Darrin Northey wrote to Shoalhaven City Mayor Joanna Gash.
Mr Northey said the CUA branch in Shellharbour would be the nearest to Nowra from September 20.
He also pointed out the affected Nowra staff would be offered positions in the company elsewhere.
Councillor Gash tabled a Mayoral Minute to announce the closure to councillors at Tuesday night’s ordinary council meeting.
