Competitors Mark Lucas and Karen Murphy are local stars ready to take on the competition in their chosen sports.
Boxing his way to the top, 25-year-old Bomaderry champ Lucas arrived at the games village two weeks ago.
He said the atmosphere was electric.
“Training has been going well. I’m looking forward to sharpening up over the next few days,” he said.
“General weigh-in is on Thursday and my first fight potentially on Saturday.
“The team is getting pumped to start our journey to the top of the podium.”
Former Shoalhaven Heads bowler Murphy has represented Australia on many occasions.
She has been on the top of her game year after year, winning Australian and world indoor championships.
Murphy will be one to keep an eye on.
The first bowls event is scheduled for Thursday, July 24.
It’s the third time the Commonwealth Games have been hosted in Scotland. This year sports on the games program include: athletics, aquatics, boxing, badminton, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, judo, lawn bowls, netball, rugby 7s, shooting, squash, table tennis, triathlon, weightlifting and wrestling.
