To irrecoverably damage the very sensitive environment of this pristine area of Jervis Bay on such a huge scale is utter folly and madness. The sheer size and complexity of this entire proposal can only destroy forever everything we value most. And what of the effluent emanating from this monstrous development? It will leach in vast proportions into Currumbene Creek and ultimately Jervis Bay.
This development is not going to benefit us, the people who love and care for our area. It will be made by the Chinese for the Chinese in a gated select community and is being misrepresented in terms of employment opportunities, tourism and overall financial gain, to quell the objections from concerned locals.
This project has been on the drawing board for a number of years now, during which time the Chinese have consistently failed to honour their agreement to make the required financial payments.
The matter of the traffic chaos that will be created by this development appears not to have been addressed. In light of the millions of dollars just spent on extensions to the Princes Highway from South Nowra to Falls Creek, how can another major road construction possibly even be considered?
This is our land, our heritage, which our forebears fought and died for. Too much of our land – Australia – has already been bought up in great tracts by foreign countries. This must be stopped. How much of Australia do we actually own?
We do not want this massive development despoiling our area. It is hoped that the Planning Assessment Comm-ission, the Department of Planning and Shoalhaven City Council will reject the application based on a large number of factors but most importantly the disastrous environmental impact this will have.
You have a responsibility to the local government area to make decisions that are not of such detriment to the people and the land. The decision makers would do well to heed words of Joni Mitchell’s song” “Don’t it always seem to be, you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.”
