Zeke and Ketrina Gooding helped their children fuel their chicken-passion because their eldest son Ethan just loved them.
“We bought the kids chickens a few Easters ago and then joined the Nowra Poultry Club to extend on that interest,” Mrs Gooding said.
“They all really enjoy it.
“There are people of all ages in the club. It gives the kids an opportunity to see lots of different chickens and be a part of the community.
“It’s a fun family activity.”
Ethan (10), Aleah (8), Caleb (4) and Ollie (2) look after their own barnevelder and white frizzle chickens called Rose, Power Ranger Baby and Custard.
Ethan has entered his chickens into the show for the past four years and said he loves his chickens.
“I’m really, really excited about the show because it’s fun,” he said.
“There are so many chickens there of all colours and there are chickens for sale.
“They’re fluffy, pretty and lay eggs.”
Ethan said getting the chickens ready for a show is the best part.
“You have to wipe their feathers, make sure they’re clean and get all the dirt off their feet and beaks,” he said.
“I’ve placed second and third with Custard before.”
His sister Aleah enjoys entering painted eggs in the show.
“I painted one like a smurf once, it was lots of fun,” she said.
“I love chickens because they’re cuddly like teddies and baby chickens are super cute.”
