The open this year will be conducted for the first time using the new 18-hole course.
Be the one to set the new course record along with great prize money as well as much more on offer for the day.
There will be limited numbers available. As further details come to hand, I will advise all interested golfers. Watch this space!
Last Saturday’s event appeared to have a lot of promise for the early players in the Callala single Stableford event.
Crisp, clear morning with very little wind was to be a very short-lived weather condition as the strong winds that have been with us for the last month or so returned with a vengeance to wreak havoc among the players.
The big surprise for the day was our very own Callala legend, Barry (new driver) Whitlock who obviously was getting tired of being overlooked for the winners’ circle.
To rectify this oversight by his beloved Callala Golf Club, he took up the challenge and came romping home with a very healthy 41 and all this on a day that could only be described as lousy for good golf.
Congratulations Barry we all knew that you were a legend and deep inside was a champion golfer. No more talk of hanging up the clubs.
Not to be left out on a party, our president, Doug Ingle, also put his best foot forward and in doing so came in as runner-up to Legend Barry.
Not to be left out, captain Ilija Sesum also put in a great game but suffered to Doug on the deadly countback.
Sharp shooters for the day with their closest to the pins were:
Third hole - Reg Treneman
Sixth hole - Phil MacPherson
12th hole - Col Chessell
15th hole - Graham Lewington
Raffle winners: Dick Poole, Bill Downton and David Brumby.
Ball rundown for the day: V. Goran, C. Chessell, J. Reardon, A. Anderson, J. Bentley, G. Lewington, D. Poole, P. MacPherson, G.Miller, C. Wehmeyer, J. Love and S. Monsalve.
Don’t forget if you are a visitor or a local looking for a great Saturday of golf come and join us. Just call the golf shop to arrange a tee off time.
