The Chicks opened the scoring early and controlled the second half to win 40-4.
Hotdoggies coach Bernie Maher said he knew it was going to be a tough day, but was impressed by his squad’s efforts.
“The girls have completely blown me away,” Maher said.
“They were up against tough competition and we didn’t have reserves.”
Successive tries to Tegan Mundy and Taelar Williams saw the Roosters ahead early.
Chicks captain Joccoaa Rogers said the Bega squad was working on its form during the game.
“We had two things we wanted to concentrate on,” Rogers said.
“We wanted to complete our attacking sets and everyone moving up in defence.
“We had our best completion rates for the year, so I’m pretty proud of that,” she said.
Despite the widening scoreline, the Hotdoggies were in the thick of the contest and pressured the Chicks for possession.
“They did push us in defence quite a bit ... they had some good attacking runs.
“It makes your team step up, you work harder for it.”
The ’Doggies’ efforts paid off before half-time when a kick was regathered by Merimbula-Pambula and the proceeding run got the team within 10 metres.
Maher said Skye Holmes was “flying under the radar” to sneak between two defenders and post a try for the Hotdoggies.
“I think that shocked the Chicks and rattled the roost a bit.” Maher said.
However, it was still the Chicks running riot when they got near the try-line.
Alliera Bower-Scott was at her best, while Williams had scorching runs through the ruck.
Chianne Long scored her first for the year, and then backed up again to post a double.
Rogers said the Chicks were able to work on their defence to counter the Hotdoggies’ solid runs.
“We still got the chance to run all our plays the way we wanted to, but the girls were pushed and we had to work hard and tag,” she said.
This weekend sees the Chicks at home to take on the Moruya Sharkettes and Rogers is expecting a challenge.
“We have the Sharkettes this weekend.
“They had a really good game against Cooma and they will bring some good form.”
