Cr Gash said she felt apprehensive about the six-week treatment program.
“I’m starting my treatment on Monday,” she said.
Cr Gash stood firm with her previous statement that she would not be stepping down from her role as mayor.
“I can’t tell you the support that I’ve had,” she said.
“I’m a fairly strong person but the support has really brought me down to earth.
“I understand my treatments will start at 8.30 every morning and I hope to be back at work by 9.30am depending on how I feel.”
Cr Gash said she was on the “homeward run” and has asked women to have regular health checks.
