It’s not meant to be a ski report it’s a fishing report, you wouldn’t think so though with the current icy cold weather conditions, so cold, so windy and so damn miserable, bring back summer I reckon.
So apart from last Friday it’s pretty well been a right off since last Wednesday and not to many people would have hit the water and fished over the weekend.
If you did, good luck to you and you’re a better man than me!
For those who did manage to scam a day or arvo off work on Friday they had some pretty good results, the westerly winds from previous days had flattened the ocean making it ideal conditions for close in snapper fishing with soft plastics.
The shallow reefy waters between Sussex Inlet and Bendalong is the perfect spot to put this form off fishing into action and produced some nice reds on plastics.
Fish up to about five kilograms were taken with plenty in the 2-3 kilogram class.
Five inch plastics in the Berkley Gulp or Z-Mann in the jerk shad style are working a treat in a variety of colours matched with a strong jig head and adjusting your jig head weight to suit conditions with ¼oz, 3/8oz and 1/2oz being the popular sizes.
Apart from the snapper fishing the keen beach prospectors have been out and about bagging the odd nice bream, plenty of good size salmon and a few small but legal size jewfish, Seven Mile Beach from the surf club south and Culburra Beach down to the lake entrance have been two spots of note and further south if you’re up for the walk Steamers is also fishing well.
If you’re looking to get out for a fish over the next few days, tomorrow is probably the best pick with more strong winds forecast for Friday and the weekend, which is just typical isn’t it.
Well that’s it for this week short and sweet... hopefully next week will bring some less windy weather and favourable conditions for fisho’s to get out and about, fingers crossed hey...
Remember you can catch up with us on Facebook at McCallums Tackleworld Nowra or drop into the shop for some good advice and as of next week some great specials too as we will be having a midyear stock clearance sale. So until then stay safe and fish hard and whatever you do in life do it well!
Before I sign out for this week I would just like to send my love and thoughts to my beautiful Girlfriend Leslee and her family for the sad loss of her father Arthur Howell xxxx R.I.P. Arthur. Sorry I never got to take you fishing.
Johnny out.
