The former NSW and Australian representative five-eighth had his five-year contract ripped up by the Sutherland-based outfit on Sunday, after photos of him appearing to urinate into his own mouth went viral on social media.
Carney was already on his last warning after two prior incidents that brought the club into disrepute, and the 2010 Dally M Medal winner who could have been remembered for his great footballing ability is now destined to be another ‘what if’ story.
The playmaker was touted as ‘the next big thing’ when he made his NRL debut for the Canberra Raiders at just 17 years of age.
He was sacked just four years later though, following a string of incidents including drink driving and driving while disqualified after a police chase in Canberra, allegedly urinating on the head and neck of another patron at an ACT bar, and damaging a vehicle he jumped on in Goulburn.
He was banned from his home town for a year, and moved to Atherton in northern Queensland in the hope of rebuilding his life with a job in a pub, coupled with a place in the local rugby league team.

The Sydney Roosters handed Carney a lifeline in 2010, and a stunning run of form saw him selected for Australia at the end of the season, after he led the club to the NRL grand final.
But another drink-driving charge, and breaking a club-enforced alcohol ban led to him again having his contract torn up.
He again experienced a brief revival after joining the Sharks, appearing in all three State of Origin matches for NSW in 2012, but now his career appears over.
