The economic benefit for the Shoalhaven area in the past two years for visiting sporting events brought in $9.2 million.
A thank you lunch was held on Wednesday to acknowledge the efforts of local businesses and sporting associations who have helped make the events possible.
“It is an exciting time for the Shoalhaven,” Cr Clive Robertson said.
“Everyone is very excited about the future as we have some amazing events coming up – like the Surf Life Saving Championships and the Outrigger State Titles as well the Cycling NSW Team Trials. That event alone will attract 600 competitors plus all of their supporters.
“The partnership and assistance of the hosting sports clubs and associations for these events has been invaluable. The delivery of an event takes many hours of organisation, preparation and hard work,” he said.
Cr Robertson presented certificates to supporters of the program including the Bomaderry RSL, Bomaderry Bowling Club, Archer Resort, Holiday Haven Tourist Parks, George Bass Motor Inn, 2ST, Power FM, South Coast Register, Telstra, Shoalhaven Heads Bowling and Recreation Club, Country Motors and Milton Ulladulla Club.
