Ahead of embarking on his Lone Wolf tour, Pyke declared his love for the historic village.
“I’ve played that theatre about four times now and I love it,” Pyke says.
“It's such a creative community in Milton and the atmosphere and sound that is created is great.
“The theatre has a wonderful sound and the audience that turns up are the right mix of well-behaved people and those that want to get up clap and have a dance.”
Pyke’s career launched in 2004 when he won a Jaxter Music Award which he then used to build his own home studio to release his own mini-album Feeding The Wolves.
The following year he gained recognition for his singles Middle of the Hill and Private Education.
In 2007 he released Memories and Dust which cleaned up at the ARIA Awards, winning Best Adult Contemporary Album and Producer of the Year (with Wayne Connolly).
It was followed by 2008’s Chimney’s Afire which debuted at number one on the Australian albums chart. Its singles Make You Happy and The Lighthouse Song, helped to win Pyke another ARIA award.
Despite touring substantially overseas, Pyke values his home grown audience and has extensively toured regional Australia throughout his career.
“I have always toured regionally and I am always looking to expanding that regional circuit,” he says.
“I think it’s an important part of building a career for yourself as a musician in Australia.
“There is only so long that you can play capital cities and I have a really strong audience in regional Australia that is great.”
In mid-2013 Pyke released his fourth album, The Beginning And The End Of Everything, that debuted at number seven on the ARIA chart.
Pyke’s leading single from the album, Leeward Side, is reminiscent of his older music with a sing-along chorus and beautiful melody.
“It made it into this year’s Triple J Hottest 100 and I think that is like the ninth time. I have been very lucky in regards to that with my fan base supporting me,” says Pyke.
Josh Pyke will play Milton Theatre on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5.
