Police have confirmed that a man whose body was discovered at Jamberoo Mountain on Sunday had been shot.
About 8.45am police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command were called to Jamberoo Mountain Road, Budderoo, after a park ranger found the body of a man.
The body has since been identified as that of Sydney businessman John Gasovski, 48, from Arncliffe.
A post mortem examination was conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Glebe on Monday, where it was confirmed Mr Gasovski had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
On Thursday June 12, Mr Gasovski’s family contacted police to report him missing after he failed to return from a business trip to Canberra. He had told his family he had left home for Canberra about 3.30pm on Monday (June 9), and said he would be back on the following evening.
Strike Force Berek, which comprises detectives from St George, Lake Illawarra and State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, was formed to investigate his disappearance.
Investigations are now underway to establish Mr Gasovski’s movements before his body was found.
Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/.
