FIRE and Rescue NSW crews have warned residents to be careful about raking leaves into large piles and leaving them on the ground, after reports of a fire bug setting fire to them in the Worrigee area.

On Saturday evening, crews from Shoalhaven Fire and Rescue were called to a fire on the edge of Old Southern Road at Worrigee, after a pile of leaves had been set ablaze.
A fire brigade spokesperson said crews had been called to a number of similar incidents over the past few weeks.
“Residents in the area are obviously trying to do the right thing by raking up the leaves on the road verge, but they are being left on the site and someone is intentionally setting them on fire,” the spokesperson said.
“Wherever possible when raking leaves into a stack, it is advisable to try and remove them at the same time to eliminate any possible enticement for fire bugs.”
The Shoalhaven crew also attended a car fire in Hockeys Lane at Cambewarra in the early hours of Saturday morning.
About 3am the brigade received a report of a vehicle on fire about two kilometres north of Illaroo Road.
The Mazda sedan, which is believed to have been stolen, was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Nowra police attended the scene and are investigating the incident.
