The championship culminates on Sunday, June 1 with the presentation and major raffle to be held in the club at the end of play.
Before moving onto the day’s results along with the overall stroke winners, I would like to take the opportunity to advise all district golfers of an upcoming event to be held at the Callala course.
The event is the Allan Gaffey Memorial Day which will be held on Sunday, June 8.
This is a major event that is run in recognition of Allan, his life and his great contribution to his beloved Callala Golf Club.
Allan’s loving wife, Bev along with their family will be attending to help celebrate Allan and his life at the place where he spent so much of his retirement.
The proceeds from Allan’s Memorial Day will be donated to cancer treatment/research unit.
The $20 entry covers your game plus lunch with lots of other fun fund-raising happenings during the day.
This is a great day for a great bloke and a great cause so come on ring and book in through the Callala Golf Shop 4446 5112.
Help us to help make cancer a thing of the past!
On Saturday a stroke event was held with two sets of players; those competing in the club championship and those players enjoying a stroke event for overall results.
Overall winner for the day was to go to Gary Miller whose great play saw him come home four strokes ahead of his nearest rival.
Gary also secured the C grade leader after the first round.
Congratulations on a great day of golf and good luck for the rest of the championship.
Overall runner-up for the day as well as B grade first round leader was Adam Ruperto who managed to capitalise on some great driving to help attain his result.
Well done Adam and let’s hope your good form continues for round two.
Coming in third overall place was our hardworking Graham Lewington who was pipped at the post by the dreaded countback.
Graham’s great play today has left him running second in the B grade championship so young Adam had better keep an eye on Graham tomorrow.
Our A grade leader at the end of the first round is our youngest player, Cody Wehmeyer, whose talents with the golf clubs far exceed his years. Cody has in the past demonstrated his talents representing his state at national level plus many club and district wins.
