Work will include removing vegetation from a slope about four kilometres north of Milton to prevent rock falls onto the highway.
The road shoulders will also be widened to minimise the risk of crashes by providing motorists with more room to stop safely if they leave the road.
RMS will carry out work from Monday, May 19 to mid-September on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 2pm, weather permitting.
One lane of the highway will be closed to motorists.
Motorists will be able to travel past the work site under the direction of traffic control and are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
