In the only game played locally, Albatross v Port Kembla at Tom Smith Oval, Port Kembla finished the winners 126-38.
Port got off to a flying start, kicking five goals to the Demons’ one to have the score at 32-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Port continued this lead in the next four quarters, showing consistency throughout the game to build their 126 total.
However Albatross never gave up, and saved their best quarter until their last, kicking three goals, taking their game goals to five.
Simon Blizzard was the best goal kicker for Albatross, whereas Port’s Kenny Jackson was a standout, kicking seven.
Bomaderry played an away game at Hollymount Park against Northern Districts in the battle of the Tigers.
The first quarter was an even affair with Northern Districts kicking just one more goal to make it 26-20 going into the second.
Bomaderry seemed to be chasing their tails for the next quarter, and although they were putting up a noble fight, could not bridge that first quarter deficit.
Bomaderry’s half-time talk must have given them extra fight, because in the third quarter the team came out firing, kicking six goals and claiming the lead 68-61.
However Northern Districts retaliated in the fourth, kicking four goals to Bomaderry’s one, to take the game 86-78.
Luke Hogan was the big goalkicker for Bomaderry with four goals to his name, whereas Mark O’Rourke kicked the most for Northern Districts with four.
At Keira Oval the Nowra Blues had a tough time against Wollongong Bulldogs, going down 159-15.
Adam Weller kicked both goals for his team, with Liam Walsh, Tristan Balazic, Ashley Balazic, Josh Corcoran and Jake Evans the best players for the Blues.
In the final match of the round, Kiama Power were too good for Shellharbour City Suns, taking the win 102-43 at Myimbarr Oval.
