The Bay and Basin Cancer Support group held its morning tea this week at the St Georges Basin Country Club and the place was packed.
The group raised $500 for the Cancer Council and sales from its popular craft table reached $2300, which will be used to buy a bed for the David Berry Hospital’s Karinya Palliative Care unit.
Meanwhile, many other morning teas will held during the rest of the month.
These simple, tasty events provide valuable funds for the Cancer Council.
Cancer Council’s chief executive officer Professor Ian Olver encouraged all local residents to attend or host a morning tea.
“We have seen huge advancements in treatment, as well as significant improvements in survival rates since morning teas first began,” he said.
“With the generous support of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fund-raisers, the Cancer Council has contributed over a half a billion dollars to cancer research.
“We continue to beat cancer every day through our work in prevention, support, research, advocacy and information services.”
