Deaves was a late inclusion to the team after Warilla-Lake South Gorillas fullback Nick Lazarevski was declared out due to injury.
In a team re-shuffle, Joel Roberts was moved from the wing to fullback, and Deaves was named to play on the wing.
Last year’s grand finalists Gerringong and Warilla-Lake South are well and truly the best represented clubs, with six players from each team making the squad, leading some on social media to label the team as the ‘Gerringong Gorillas’.
There were obvious exceptions, with ex-NRL talents like Gary Warburton from Milton-Ulladulla and Shellharbour City duo Bronx Goodwin and Craig Stapleton, as well as Jamberoo pair Jono Dallas and Mark Asquith all selected.
In the original team selected to play, no player from the Nowra-Bomaderry Jets or the Berry Magpies was named, however now Deaves will fly the flag for the Shoalhaven.
The Group 7 team is as follows: 1. Joel Roberts (Gerringong), 2. Nathan Deaves (Nowra-Bomaderry), 3. Tyson Brown (Warilla), 4. Bronx Goodwin (Shellharbour), 5. Taylor Hudson (Gerringong), 6. Pat Cronin (Gerringong), 7. Jono Dallas (Jamberoo), 8. Andrew Diomei (Warilla), 9. Hans Schusher (Shellharbour City), 10. Damien Paulissen (Warilla), 11. Gary Warburton (Milton-Ulladulla), 12. Keiran Rankmore (Warilla), 13. Aaron Henry (Warilla). Interchange- 14. Kieran Poole (Kiama), 15. Harold Snell (Shellharbour City), 16. Craig Stapleton (Shellharbour), 17. Corey Mulhall (Gerringong), Peter Hooper (coach).
