The Nowra Velo Club women were in form for the 13 kilometre individual time trial stage that started this event on a chilly morning.

Jade completed the course in 19 minutes and 38 seconds for third place in the A grade women’s field, just 23 seconds off the leader.

Mel was placed second in the B grade women’s event in 20 minutes and 15 seconds. Mel was close with just a nine second gap to the stage winner.

Both Jade and Mel have been working hard on their individual time trial skills and to place in an interstate event shows their continuing improvement.

The Canberra Womens Tour continued with a hilly 38 kilometre road race on Saturday afternoon.

The attacks and the climbs split the combined A and B grade field into three groups, coming to the finish with Jade in bunch two and Mel in bunch three.

The lead group was preparing their sprint to the line when caught by group two and big bunch raced over the tape with Jade in the top 10 positions and holding an overall top five at the end of the day’s racing.

Only seconds later Mel cleaned up on the uphill finish to lead this group over the line and retain a high overall B grade position at the end of the day.

Next weekend Jade Colligan will join her Bicycle SuperStore National team for the Battle of the Border, a three day event for elite men, women and masters on the Tweed Coast of northern NSW.

Local racing resumes for the Optus Nowra Velo Club next Sunday with round seven of the MIE 2014 team challenge series.

This program will feature graded scratch races on the Flinders Industrial Complex circuit starting at 9 am.

The Watts Factory sprint points will be up for grabs for all grades, where Michelle Harris is the points leader.

Hanlon Windows goes into this round as leaders in the team classification while Levi Johns holds a handy lead in the individual points.

The Bomaderry Vet Hospital/Coffeeliscious team will host the event.
