The plan to build a new home to be sold as a fund-raiser brings one of the region’s most ambitious charity projects one step closer to fruition.
The family home in Bomaderry was started in November and drew together more than 80 local tradespeople and building suppliers.
The project was led by Shoalhaven’s GJ Gardner Homes and built in just six months.
The house will be auctioned by Integrity Real Estate on Saturday, May 24 to raise money for Variety – the Children’s Charity.
GJ Gardner Homes Shoalhaven director Nathan Fay said a great deal of thought went into everything from layout right down to the smallest details.
“From door handles to quality Smeg appliances, a lot of care has been taken to maximise the amount of money we can raise at the auction,” Mr Fay said.
Variety South Coast chairman Brian Muller was amazed to see so much work come together.
“It is mind-blowing,” he said.
He said the profit target was $200,000 for the children’s charity.
“While that depends on the auction day we are certainly at that target,” he said.
“Nathan and Sean from GJ Gardner worked their backsides off to get as much of the work and as many products discounted and donated as possible.
“We couldn’t have done it without them.
“Their enthusiasm got others enthused to do what they could toward the project.
“Talking to our people in Variety in Sydney, they are in disbelief as to how it came together so well,” he said.
Photos from the open day appear on page 25.
