‘Spruce-up needed’

“I’d like to see the town freshened up a bit, maybe install some attractive lighting and get some advertising on the highway,” he said.

For people who live south of Nowra there is real motivation to stop at South Nowra rather than drive further into town.

Veronica and Mary Murphy, who regularly stay in a family holiday home at Erowal Bay, rarely go into the CBD.

“We buy what we can at the shopping centre in Vincentia which usually only leaves a few specific items we might need to come to town for,” she said.

“If we can get those things at South Nowra we will.”

John O’Rourke from Bomaderry said [Stockland] Shellharbour was as much of a threat as South Nowra.

“I can’t get over how massive Shellharbour is, and it’s all under one roof.”
