Still, the club was ready to go on time and thanked everyone enough for the way they all pitched in and got things organised at such short notice.

In the past I, Neville Hickmott, have been the one trying to put together a write up each week, but the respective coaches have offered to give their view on the game.

FIRST GRADE

Final score: Kiama (8-13:61) defeated Bomaderry (6-7:43)

Sean’s summary:

With the wet and wild windy conditions on Saturday, both teams knew they were going to be in for a tight contested day of football.

Kiama got the jump on Bomaderry in the first leading by a goal at quarter-time. There were plenty of stoppages as both teams struggled to get free of the contest. 

In the second term the Tigers tightened the screws, keeping Kiama to just two points for the quarter, while at the other end, Bomaderry would rue their missed opportunities, kicking 1.4 for the term.

Heading into the main break it was anyone’s game.

Bomaderry were one down on the bench, and with three reserve graders doubling up, fitness would be a key to running out the game.

Bomaderry came out firing from half-time with some accurate goalkicking, booting three straight for the quarter.

Bomaderry's back six had been solid all game, keeping Kiama’s forward line relatively quiet and applying plenty of defensive pressure.

Brucey Lee continued to work both ways and set up plenty of counter attacking plays from the half back line.

With the game still in the balance and Bomaderry’s reserve stocks starting to feel the strain, Kiama finished the game off strongly kicking four goals and five behinds in the last quarter, while keeping the Tigers scoreless in what was a disappointing end to a tight contest.

With the rain gone and the wind strengthening in Kiama’s favour, the Power were clinical at the stoppages and really got on top of the centre clearances midway through the last quarter to record a hard fought victory.

RESERVE GRADE

Final score: Kiama (12-4:76) defeated Bomaderry (6-8:44).

Aaron’s assessment:

After a strong win against Port the previous week, reserve grade Bomaderry Tigers came into the clash against Kiama with momentum behind them.

Kiama is always a tough outfit to play, but to Bomaderry’s credit, each and every player lifted to the challenge and played out of their skin.

Dayks and Toby asked the boys to back themselves and play as a unit and that is exactly what they did.

The contested ball was attacked and the poise and discipline of the team was displayed at every contest.

The backline was rock-solid all day, continually rebounding the ball and their disposal was top class.

Pearny turned back the clock 10 years, and Lachy Price was reading the play well and his ability to rebound out of defence to Bomaderry’s advantage was superb. Young Nathan was bumping guys twice his age into the fifth tier and attacking the contested football all afternoon.

The clearances and ruck contests were best served by Pauly and Toby Craig. Pauly’s aggressive attack on the ball was too much for Kiama to handle, with him going on to be one of the best on ground.

Toby Craig was like a man possessed.

He was everywhere and into everything.

Toby’s silky skills and hard ball gets are among the best in the league.

Kieran was in his first game for the club and stood out on the wing, creating that vital link between defence and attack.

Blake Hill was a bit lost at times in his first game for the club, but you have to praise him for the way he attacked the ball and battled all day against more experienced players.

Dan Bird, where have you been?

Dan was the dominant target across centre half forward and he plucked everything out the air.

His marking, reading the play and tackles were top-notch.

Up forward Evo was having a great game providing plenty of options and kicking straight all day.

Thanks also to Jacko who threw the boots on at late notice.

Jacko controlled the play all day, won the contested footy every time and inspired the boys with his hard ball gets.

Dayks could not have asked for much more.

He asked the boys to dig deep in the second quarter and play smart footy and the boys reacted and tightened up their game.

Third quarter saw the forward line run rampant and the delivery to Evo was spot on.

This week, the Bomaderry Tiger’s are at home against Shellharbour in what promises to be another tough day at the office.

With so many people away due to Anzac Day commitments and school holidays, the teams will be looking for a few ring-ins to help make up the numbers.
