These awards were set up to promote local indigenous artists.
TAFE Aboriginal arts teacher Warwick Keen said it was hoped to help emerging artists develop to a more professional level.
“And hopefully it will make the wider community aware of what people are doing and of the positive contributions from the Aboriginal community,” he said.
Works will be on display in the Nowra School of Arts from 10am until 4pm daily, with the opening night Tuesday, July 8 at 6.30pm.
Entries need to be received by Friday, July 4 and can be dropped at the school of arts during the day.
Entry forms are available at the Shoalhaven City Arts Centre and Regional Gallery or from Mr Keen on 0403 642 087.
This year, the NAIDOC Week theme is, serving country: centenary and beyond.
This might inspire creativity; however, artworks don’t need to fit any particular theme.
The works may be any medium.
The cost is $5 per entry.
Many schools will be involved in the exhibition and awards this year; including local primary, high school and preschools.
A visiting judge from Sydney will judge the entries before the opening.
The launch will be organised by TAFE students.
