The men, a 33 and 34-year-old from the ACT and a 34-year-old from Queensland, spent six hours in the water before reaching dry land.

Their adventure began at 4.15pm when they left Murrays Beach boat ramp to go fishing.

Although it hadn’t rained for the past half hour, southerly winds were gusting at 55 km/h at the time.

The men’s 4.1 metre aluminium vessel started to take on water at Longnose Point and as the weather conditions worsened, the men turned around to head back.

They were on the western side of Bowen Island when one of the men moved to the side of the boat.

It listed over and capsized with all three ending up in the water.

Fortunately, they had lifejackets on.

They started to swim back to the southern side of the bay, but the wind blew them to the northern side.

Finally they came ashore.

However, the men had to walk another two hours before they found help at the Honeymoon Bay campsite.

Emergency services were alerted and the men were treated for minor cuts, abrasions and hypothermia.

Their vessel was found this morning, washed up at Honeymoon Bay.
