Tigers claims second win of the season

THE Bomaderry Tigers have continued their winning ways in the AFL South Coast competition after they celebrated a crushing 110-23 defeat of Port Kembla at Kully Bay Oval.

The win has put the Tigers at two from two after they defeated the Nowra Blues 86-15 in the opening round.

The Tigers were fired up and ready to go from the blow of the first whistle, and this was evident in their first quarter score, which had them kick five goals to Port’s one and amass a 25-point lead.

Bomaderry remained consistent throughout the next two quarters and led 86-22 going into the fourth.

Another three goals to Bomaderry in the final quarter saw them comfortably take the win 110-23.

James Lees and Brent Tyrrell were the lead goal kickers for Bomaderry with four apiece, with Brayden Varcoe kicking three.

Over at North Dalton Park a slightly more even match was played between Kiama Power and Figtree Kangaroos.

Kiama was sore after narrowly going down to Northern Districts by four points in round one so were expected to be out in full force against the Roos on Saturday.

However Kiama got off to a slow start and were down 25-1 in the first quarter.

But the team regrouped and started fresh in the second to claw their way back into the game.

Six goals to Figtree’s one in the second quarter saw Kiama in the lead at 40-31.

They continued to power their way through the rest of the game and at the blow of the final whistle had amassed a 103-57 lead to take the win.

The Northern Districts v Shellharbour and Bulldogs v Albatross games were postponed due to wet ground.
