Police said the incident happened around 9.15pm when Irma Crawford was reversing her vehicle down the driveway of a house in Mackay Street.
Police alleged she had the door open, when it hit a post, possibly a fence post.
The door was damaged and she was unable to close it but continued reversing.
Police suspect the woman, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, may have been reversing too quickly and was thrown from the vehicle.
It is believed her head hit the roadway and the car continued backwards down the road for around 20 metres before colliding with a neighbour’s fence.
She was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics and taken to Shoalhaven District Hospital with extensive head injuries but later died. Police said there are no suspicious circumstances but are appealing for witnesses.
