Over 500 athletes, officials and spectators from across Australia are expected to travel to the Shoalhaven to take part in the prestigious competition, along with a number of talented young athletes from Eclipse Taekwondo.
The South Coast Open is regarded as a highlight of the Australian taekwondo calender with the event again set to attract a high calibre field of contestants including current Australian team members.
Eclipse Taekwondo head instructor Dale Bryce said he was looking forward to bringing the championships back to the Shoalhaven.
“With the success of our first two events, we have decided to hold the 2014 championships over two days this year, to encourage athletes and their families to stay and enjoy the tourism aspects of what the beautiful Shoalhaven area has to offer,” he said.
“The South Coast Open will be the first event on the taekwondo calendar for 2014 and with athletes travelling from all over NSW and interstate, it is set to be an exciting two days of competition and a great chance for the community to see taekwondo at its very best here in our own back yard.”
The 2014 event will see all of the technical events such as poomsae (patterns), board breaking and tricking held on Saturday, with the sparring events to be held on Sunday 9.
Tickets will be available at the door for $10 per person for a two day pass.
