THE Mid South Coast Golfers Association hosted the 23rd annual Shoalhaven Week of Golf for veteran men and women last week.

The tournament secretary John Buttle was relieved to see the improving climatic conditions prior to the event.
About 120 people attended the registration at Nowra Golf Club on Sunday, February 9 before teeing off for an 18 hole single Stableford, the first round of the 36 hole tournament, at Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club on the Monday.
On Tuesday about 157 competitors played the second 18 holes on the Worrigee Links course at the Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s Golf Club.
Wednesday saw an 18 hole single Stableford played at St Georges Basin Golf Club for the NSWVGA Trophy Day.
On Thursday 26 competitors played in the optional nine hole picnic day at Vincentia Golf Club.
A presentation dinner was held Thursday evening at Nowra Golf Club with special guest Australian and NSW Veterans Golfers Association president Richard Farrant.
The week of golf was capped off on Friday with an 18 hole Valentine’s Day medley event at Nowra Golf Club.
Vincentia’s Dennis Willis was the best of the men’s division in the 36 hole aggregate Stableford with 74.
This was won on countback from Nelson Bay’s Hans Kaluski, with Nowra’s Colin Armstrong taking out third on 72.
In the women’s Randwick’s Sadako Greer took out the top spot on 72, closely followed by Killara’s Maryjane Sanderson on 66 and Churchill Park’s Anne Robbins in third.
Camden’s Gary Riley took out the NSWVGA Trophy Day men’s single Stableford on 41, with Shioalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s Stu Dossetor runner-up on 40.
For the women St Georges Basin’s Jennifer Noden won on countback from Callala’s Carole Day, both on 36.
Major trophies in excess of $6000 were provided for
the winners.
The tournament proved once again to be popular with an increase in the number of competitors, many of who are visitors.
There was a noticeable increase in the number of women and groups from Hawks Nest, Canberra and Howlong.

The tournament was only as good as the hospitality provided by the host clubs and the efforts of organisers and workers behind the scene.
The Mid South Coast Veteran Golfers Association committee and members gave freely their time each day to make the tournament a success.
