In presenting information and a story she wrote on behalf of the gliders, she was brought to tears as she pleaded with Shoalhaven City Council to reconsider its decision to clear bushland at the intersection of Gerroa and Beach roads.
She said she previously lived at Bondi Junction in a house over 100 years old that had a heritage listing.
“We couldn’t do anything to that house because it had a heritage listing, yet here we have trees that are over 400 years old, the home to a precious species yet they have no protection,” she said.
“It’s wrong. If council cuts down the trees the gliders will lose everything – their nests, their homes, their food source. The families will die.”
