At 10.30pm a man entered the bowling club at the corner of Meroo and Cambewarra roads, demanding money from staff members.
Police said the man allegedly produced a set of scissors.
A staff member picked up a chair to defend themselves and the would-be robber left the premises on foot and was last seen on Meroo Road.
Police were alerted and attended the scene but could find no trace of the alleged offender.
Police are hoping security camera footage may provide a lead on the offender and have issued a description of the man, as about 5'10" tall with a skinny build, and wearing black pants and a black hoodie.
Anyone who saw a man of similar description running along Meroo Road or witnessed anything suspicious in the area is asked to call Nowra Police on 4421 9699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
