The stud cleared four of their five lots offered at the Magic Millions sales, with Waterhouse snapping up Bell View Park’s first foal from Group 1 winner Russeting.

Racing’s first lady shelled out $150,000 for the Street Cry filly, the highest-priced lot out of Bell View Park’s draft.

“She could well run as a two-year-old and having Gai as a trainer ... she’ll make sure she’s fit and when she’s ready to run she’ll run,” said Bell View Park proprietor Garry Mackrell.

“We’re pretty optimistic about her chances as a racehorse.”

Russeting also has a More Than Ready filly on the ground and is in foal to 10-time Group 1 winner So You Think.

Waterhouse inspected Bell View Park’s yearlings last year only days after her first Melbourne Cup triumph with Fiorente.

Her emerging syndicator, Round Table Racing put its hand up to take home a Snitzel filly from Bell View Park for $120,000, while the stud’s Magic Albert colt ($80,000) and Commands filly ($65,000) were also knocked down for reasonable returns.

“The number of horses sold was a record high,” Mr Mackrell said. 

“Usually in sales you have a pass-in rate of 15 to 20 per cent, but at this sale we had very few horses passed in at the end which shows there’s a good broader cross-section of demand.

“The average prices were up which augurs well for the outlook for the horse industry.”
