After only just missing out on making the NSW team for the Under 19 Australian Championships, the fast bowler set his sights on the ACT and never looked back.
Beckett returned victorious from the championships as the fifth highest wicket-taker and with a selection in the Australian Championships team.
Held in Hobart last week, Beckett took 12 wickets over five matches, which included an innings best of 3/35.
The 18-year-old also proved himself with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 47 runs against the Northern Territory.
Although ACT camefourth in the competition, it was a tight finish for the top four, with final positions going down to the last round.
Beckett said he was pleased and surprised with the championship team selection, but went into the competition just grateful to be playing in it.
“I just wanted to enjoy it and make the most of the opportunity that I had,” he said.
