Both of them are elite athletes who finished their HSC this year with ATARS of 97.05 and 91.5 respectively, while still competing at a national level.
Kyah, who was this year selected for the U23s Australian women’s field hockey team and the Open Women’s Australian Indoor Hockey Team, took two years to finish her HSC through Pathways.
She hopes her 97.05 result will get her into veterinary science at Sydney University.
“I still kept very busy. I trained up in Sydney so I drove up three or four times a week and I just took a laptop and studied in the car. It was a very good year for me in hockey.
“The school was very supportive of my schedule. I couldn’t have done it with a full load of classes.”
Tarni, who in April captained the NSW under-19 girls triathlon team to a national gold, achieved her 91.5 ATAR by putting competition on the back-burner.
“I don’t really know what I want to do next. I’m just enjoying the freedom.”
