Another successful year will be completed where the locally based MacDonald International 2013 Teams Challenge series was taken out by the Gordon MacDonald Electrical team and the individual point series for the season won by Jacob Stuart.
The 2013 Club Championships featured some new and younger faces as under 19 riders Stuart, Tristan Ward, Scott Thompson and Levi Johns either won or placed well in the individual time trial, mountain and road events.
Junior women became a feature for the Optus Nowra Velo Club during 2013 with
Jade Colligan and Tarni Cunningham winning state medals.
Colligan and Georgia Mason also won medals at divisional championships as did Stuart and Johns.
The masters still continued to shine throughout 2013 with Mark Fenner, Damian Mason, Greg Molony and Mel Kilby all bringing home state or national medals at their respective championships.
Many riders from the NVC raced throughout NSW and at interstate venues like ACT, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.
The club’s 2014 program is due to start on January 19 with the first of the 2014 Teams Challenge series scheduled to begin on February 2.
The team sponsors for the 2014 series include Optus Nowra, Bomaderry Vet Hospital/Coffeeliscious, TLE Electrical, Hanlon Windows and East Coast Ultimate.
The 2014 series will feature 15 events spread over 10 months of competition where club members will also have club championships in four divisions.
Other events available to all members will be the South Eastern Interclub series, the Southern Divisional Road Championships, state championships and other state and interstate events.
A number of the club’s under 19 riders will step up to the under 23 national division for 2014 where they will face new challenges.
The Australian road and individual time trial championships will be their first step in this more challenging area of competition at Ballarat in January.
Next Sunday’s event will be hosted by the Bomaderry Vet Hospital/Coffeeliscious team and will start at 8am in Wugan Street.
