Mrs Caple’s image of bioluminescent algae caught the judges’ eye among the 950 entries they received.
Images ranged from breathtaking landscapes to iconic landmarks and events, and locals out enjoying what their region has to offer.
It was a tough decision for the judges to narrow down to 12 winners.
The winners and their families were invited to a special event in Canberra to officially launch the calendar and be presented with their winnings of $500 each.
Mrs Caple heard about the algae show through a Facebook photography group called South Coast Photoholics.
“I was just lucky to be there at the right time,” she said.
“She would not reveal which beach the photo was taken at, other than to say it was in
Jervis Bay.
“That image is exactly how the algae looked. It was like lightning shooting along the waves.
“I took a lot of shots – probably about 100 – and I think there were about 10 good ones.
“There were no Photoshop adjustments to the image,” she said.
Mrs Caple used a Canon 7D, on a 30th of a second, with an aperture of 2.8 on an ISO of 1600.
