As part of National Day of NBN Action on Tuesday, 30 Shoalhaven residents descended on the office of Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis to deliver a petition of more than 270,000 signatures.
The group, called NBN Action, is part of the national campaign calling for the Coalition to reconsider its position on the type of technology to be installed.
The petition was delivered to the offices of 145 MPs around the nation.
Spokesman for the Shoalhaven group Dale Norris said the petition was the voice of Australians standing up.
“This is Australians telling the government we don’t want fibre-to-the-node,” he said.
The group were invited into Mrs Sudmalis’ office for an at times
robust discussion that lasted for about 20 minutes.
“The rollout of very fast internet will continue as committed by the Coalition prior to the election with a combined technology option plan,” Mrs Sudmalis said.
At the end of the meeting Mrs Sudmalis offered to arrange a meeting between a delegation from the group and Minister for Communications Malcolm Turnbull.
