The fund has been set up by the NSW Government and Treasurer Mike Baird is asking volunteer groups to come forward.
“The early start to the fire season has already had a devastating impact on many properties across the state and the task of re-building is immense,” said Mr Baird.
“Voluntary groups do an amazing job helping bushfire victims with the clean-up and recovery process, and while the NSW Government has provided financial assistance to one voluntary group in the past, we are determined to do more to assist those who are helping others get back on their feet.
“From today, funding dedicated to logistical support for large-scale, out-of-area volunteer groups will be made available on a permanent basis.
We are encouraging volunteer groups who can make a positive contribution to come forward for assessment on a case-by-case basis,” said Mr Baird.
The NSW Government provided $162,000 to assist volunteer-based organisation BlazeAid with bush- fire recovery earlier this year. This funding allowed local councils to establish temporary camp facilities for the volunteers who worked with farmers and affected families to rebuild damaged fencing.
Mr Baird said funding for logistical support enables families to begin the clean-up and recovery process as quickly as possible.
“The sooner bush- fire victims can repair their properties the faster local communities can get back to day-to-day life. This dedicated funding provides additional assurance to victims of natural disasters, both now and in the future,” Mr Baird said.
