Chris Weller, Dean and Kurt Regan helped put Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen in a comfortable 285 run total over Ulladulla United at Hayden Drexel Oval. 

Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen looked comfortable on their home ground to knock an impressive 285 runs off 51 overs.

Strong hits by top order batsmen Dean Trost (45) and Chris Weller (61) had their team in with a good chance, but a late surge by 10th batsmen Kurt Regan (38 n.o) gave his team what it needed to finish on their first batting innings of the season on a high.

But Ulladulla were not to be ignored for their bowling efforts.

Steve Bond (4/69), Tom Engelbrecht (3/46), Peter Engelbrecht (2/8) and Kane Morgan (1/23) all bowled good figures.

Ulladulla will continue to bat this week at 1/59.  

Although they had no outstanding individual scores, the Nowra batmen are set to give oppostition bowlers a headache this season, with six hitting over 20 runs on the first day of their opening match against North Nowra-Cambewarra at Bernie Regan Sporting Complex on Saturday.

Justin Wallace (23), Jono Clack (22), Adam Weller (29), David Schofield (38 n.o) and John King (34) combined to bring their team to 214 at the change of innings.

For Norths, Angus Clark proved to be a force to be reckoned with with the ball, taking 3/45 off eight overs.

Norths will resume play tomorrow at 2/39 after 21 overs.   

In the match against Berry-Shoalhaven Heads and Bomaderry at Berry Sporting Complex Berry’s Nathan Thomas proved hard to dismiss after he hit 75 runs to take his team to 276 at the change of innings.

Openers James Carroll (27) and Connor Edenden (30) and sixth order batsmen Matt Florence (38) provided some strong support to leave Berry in a comfortable position going into the second day.

Bomaderry’s Matt Bell had remembered to eat his Weet-Bix that morning and it paid off, with him taking 6/39 off 15 overs.

He found support from Nathan Wallace (1/52), Matt Lees (1/26), Blattner (1/21) and Ingold (1/21).

Bomaderry will continue to bat tomorrow on 0/8. 

All eyes were on the newcomers of the competition, Batemans Bay, which will have their work cut out for them this week after Bay and Basin made 172 on the first day of play at Sanctuary Point Oval last Saturday. 

Strong scores from Basin’s Brad Miller (75) and Brendan Hiriart saved their team, which seemed to collapse after the third wicket fell.

Batemans Bay’s Cooper made a solid impression on the second grade competition after he bowled 4/28 off nine overs, which included two maiden overs.

Unfortunately his team’s batsmen have got off to a bad start with a top order collapse seeing them lose Paterson (6), Zac Henstock (2) and Tom McAlpin (2).

Corey McAlpin (10 n.o) and Ivan Mylott (2 n.o) will continue tomorrow with their team sitting on 3/26.
