RURAL Fire Service crews from Beaumont and Kangaroo Valley were called to a car on fire on the top hairpin of Cambewarra Mountain on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire occurred shortly after 1.30pm.
It is believed mechanical failure may have caused the blaze which broke out in the vehicle while it was travelling up the mountain from Kangaroo valley.
A passing motorist stopped to help the driver of the vehicle but did not have an extinguisher and made sure the driver was all right until the fire crews arrived.
With the vehicle close to the historic home The Eyrie, which was built by Os and Alma McClelland between 1926-28, crews quickly extinguished the blaze before it could spread to the structure and the adjoining bushland.
The car was extensively damaged in the fire but police said no one was injured.
