THE funeral service for a former Nowra based senior sailor killed in a mountain bike accident in Canberra last week will be held on Friday.
Chief Petty Officer Kane Vandenberg (46) spent most of his career at HMAS Albatross and in more recent times in Canberra.
A funeral service for Chief Petty Officer Vandenberg will be held at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at HMAS Albatross at 11am on Friday.
Mr Vandenberg was a highly respected member of the navy's aircraft engineering staff.
He died on Friday when he came off his cycle while taking part in a registration ride at the Defence Mountain Bike championship at Mt Stromlo.
He was taken to Canberra Hospital but failed to respond to treatment.
Mr Vandenberg is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Joshua and partner Orcadia, Hayden and partner Stephanie and Lachlan.
He is the son of Keith (deceased) and Toni and son-in-law of Les and Dorothy Moore.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service, flowers will be accepted but donations are preferred for the Gunghalin Rural Fire Service.
