PERSONNEL from HMAS Albatross will be out pounding the runways this Friday.
Around 200 personnel from the various sections of the base will take part in the annual fund-raising event, Tour The T.
It will be the fourth annual event, which has raised close to $15,000 for local charities.
Walkers and runners get the chance to take to the usually off-limits runways at the naval base.
In a change of procedure this year the event is only open to defence personnel.
This year the event will raise funds for the Veterans’ and Community Men’s Shed in Nowra.
Physical training instructor Petty Officer Chris Vale has taken over the organisation of this year’s event, following on the great work by event founder Chief Petty Officer Annie Schofield.
He said participants can take part in two events.
“There will be a 5km walk or 8km run on the base’s landing strips on the airfield,” he said.
“Unfortunately this year the event is just open to Albatross personnel and some invited guests.”
There will be a number of categories on the day with the open male and female, veteran male and female (over 35) and walkers male and female.
There will also be a team category, where groups of four can take part in the event as a team, with the time being recorded when the final team member completes the course.
And for a bit of fun there will also be an award for the best dressed on day.
Friday’s event will get under way at 10am.
