AMONG the guests at Wednesday’s morning tea were North Nowra residents Barbara Jones and Josh Bird.
They were among a number of Page Avenue residents who helped Mr Beugels after the attack, which took place in front of Ms Jones’ house.
“I just wish somehow we might have been able to have been aware of the attack happening earlier so we may have been able to prevent it,” she said.
“We came outside, one of my neighbours called for the attackers to stop and they took off.”
Youngster Tom Constable, who lives opposite Ms Jones, was one of the first to come to Mr Beugels’ aid.
“Tom and another young fellow from the street were with him when we got outside,” Mr Bird said.
“They were fantastic and did a lot to help him straight after the attack.
“It was sad that young people were labelled as the possible perpetrators as it was in fact the younger people in the street who had come to his aid.”
