THE Shoalhaven will come alive with the warriors in white this weekend for the start of the 2013/14 junior and senior cricket season.
For many clubs the winter months have been a time for rebuilding their teams for a fresh start to the new season.
After a tumultuous 2012/13 season, the Nowra Cricket Club has regrouped to nominate five grades in the senior competition, as well as welcome new first grade captain Rohan Hutchison.
But the talk of the new season is the introduction of Batemans Bay to the first, second and third grade competition.
This is the first time there have been eight teams in first grade since 2001/02, with the last club from outside the Shoalhaven local government area to be in first grade Gerringong in 1945/46.
North Nowra-Cambewarra continues to dominate the numbers in the juniors.
After last year’s stellar season when the club claimed three junior premierships, the junior club will be represented with two teams in each age group.
It will also be a fresh start for the Shoalhaven District Cricket Association executive, which welcomes a new president and the first female president, Cathy Russell.
Check out six pages of Behind the Stumps from page 20, including first and second grade previews as well as a meet and greet with the first grade captains.
