SHOALHAVEN residents, it seems, are just as hungry for the latest technology as the rest of the world if the recent iPhone 5 launch is any indication.
Stores in Nowra sold out of the high end 5S version on the first day.
Josh Keen from Optus World Nowra said the store was allocated more phones for the launch than it had for previous models but still they sold out.
“I think we sold 23 5S phones and I’m not sure how many of the 5C,” he said.
“It’s the brand that is popular and Apple is very good at marketing.
“People know the fingerprint recognition on the 5S is a bit of a gimmick. I think the biggest thing is they just want the latest iPhone.”
Mr Keen said a lot of older people were buying iPhones as their first smart phone because their grandchildren had them and could teach them how to use them,” Mr Keen said.
Telstra Nowra manager Trent Conkey said customers were lined up to buy iPhones on launch day.
“We sold out. I think this was as big as the iPhone 5 launch,” he said.
