WHILE businesses in Huskisson were doing great trade, it was a different story at the Hyams Beach Store and Cafe where owner Phoebe Alison reported a much quieter time than anticipated.
“After being told we could expect 100,000 people upwards in the area, we were fully staffed up and ready to go but honestly it was a little disappointing,” she said.
“I honestly think we were busier on the previous weekend than we were on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Normally when there are lots of people in the village there are lots in the cafe but that wasn’t the case Wednesday and Thursday.”
In fact she said the business was busier on Thursday morning.
“I think perhaps the mentioned road closures into Hyams Beach put people off, especially locals,” she said.
“There weren’t as many boats in the bay as originally advertised and without the tall ships, which are really spectacular to see, there were not as many people.”
