A SNAIL’S pace was the best way to describe traffic heading south on the Princes Highway on Friday afternoon.
But things are expected to get even worse on Tuesday according to Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), as visitors make their way south to Jervis Bay to view ships visiting as part of the International Fleet Review.
The RMS was advising south bound motorists to expect delays, but the long lines of traffic on Friday afternoon, particularly around the South Nowra upgrade, indicated the traffic problem had started a few days earlier than expected.
The RMS warned motorists to expect delays tomorrow and Wednesday as large crowds head to Hyams Beach and other spots around Jervis Bay to see the ships.
The RMS, to help manage these large crowds and traffic, announced the following roads will be closed in Jervis Bay:
Tuesday and Wednesday between 7am and 6pm: Cyrus Street south of Booderee Avenue at Hyams Beach.
Wednesday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm: Owen Street: between Sydney Street and Hawke Street and Currambene Street north of Bowen Street in Huskisson.
Heavy traffic is expected on Jervis Bay Road, Naval College Road, Huskisson Road, Booderee Avenue and other roads in Huskisson, Vincentia and Hyams Beach.
A park and ride service is running between Vincentia High School on The Wool Road and Hyams Beach between 8am and 6pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
