OCTOBRA is coming to the Shoalhaven.
A Shoalhaven real estate agent has launched a campaign to collect unwanted bras in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
This October, Professionals Clyde Poulton Real Estate are asking the women of the Shoalhaven to donate their bras as part of the Octobra bra recycling initiative.
The bra recycling initiative will see bras donated to Project Uplift, an organisation supplying new and second hand bras to countries in need.
“For women in developing nations, bras can often be unobtainable or unaffordable,” said Professionals director Clyde Poulton.
“We’re asking for the community to donate their unwanted bras, or even purchase new ones, which will help provide basic amenities to women all over the world.”
In addition to collecting bras, Professionals also aims to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation via sponsorship of the event.
Professionals’ sales manager Karl Poulton said they have a target of collecting 1000 bras.
“Despite only conducting the campaign for October, we have already had a number of bras donated, which is just fantastic,” he said.
Local businesses can also get behind the campaign by making a monetary pledge should they achieve the goal.
“All funds raised will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, as part of their annual fund-raising,” he said.
“As diamond partners of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, we’re always looking for ways to help.
“By combining the two, we’re helping raise awareness and much needed funds, as well as providing support for women across the globe.”
To donate a bra, pink bins are located at the Professionals in Nowra, McDonald’s Bomaderry and South Nowra, Stanley Johns in Junction Street, Nowra, Crossfit Shoalhaven, Assured Locksmiths, Aquatique in Junction Street, Nowra and at the Shoalhaven Heads Surf Lifesaving Club.
All donated bras will be on display in Junction Court on October 24 where a special fund-raising cooked breakfast will also take place.
