SIX of the original team that travelled to the US to train for the Skyhawks were at Thursday’s official handover.
The team spent 14 months in the US preparing to bring the aircraft back to Australia.
“We hopped on a plane with our families and had no idea where we were going,” said George Parker who worked in avionics.
“It wasn’t until we were seated on the plane that the orders were opened and we found out we were going to the States.
“It was an exciting time and a lot of work but a great time.”
The Nowra team travelled firstly to El Toro, the Marine Corps Air Station in Orange County near Irvine, California, where they trained with the Marines.
Then the headed up to Naval Air Station Lemoore in Central California to complete their training.
